Poetry . . .

I don't limit my writing to nonfiction -- I also write poetry. I've had poetry printed in calendars, in magazines, and on greeting cards, too. Blue Mountain Arts published one poem in all these formats. I'm pleased it's helping so many people. (It's also pirated all over the web.)

The following poems appeared in Voices on the Wind : "Flames" (Volume 17, Winter 2004) and "Unity in Green" (Volume 18, Summer 2004).

If you've read my hobbies page, you know I enjoy boating. It's a favorite summer activity. I don't mind the winter, though, especially when I'm able to enjoy outdoor activities. My poems often focus on nature, or offer inspiration.

 Winter Rain

With even rhythm water drops
pelt window panes.
Icy breath holds fast their shape
in pebbled mosaics,
A fly's-eye view of
slush dirtied streets.
Sojourners, heads bent
struggle against the flurry.
Now harsh and hard
the winter rain
Taps a cadence at the panes,
Weaves in lacy, crystal-veins
A screen of beauty.
Blocking out reality.

Mona Golabek read this poem on her NPR program, The Romantic Hours. It aired on WQXR in New York December 6, 2004. (December 10, locally on WGCU.)

  Together

Two hearts toss and bob
on the sea,

Touch and merge,
together yet free.

Varied beats
on the ebb
coalesce
with the rise
of the tide.

Now two distinct hearts
Unite in
complete harmony.
