About Lisa . . .

Yours truly at the age of 3. That's my brother hanging on behind. Doesn't he look happy? There are 8 children in my family - I'm no. 6.

When Ron rode on the back I had to go slow. I didn't like that much. (Note the dents and scrapes on the bike. They were also on my knees.)

Easter is my favorite holiday. Probably because of the bunnies--they became a tradition.

Far right, Lisa at age 4.

Right, Lisa at about age 7 with youngest sister.

I spent a lot of time reading as a child. Reading was a wonderful escape from boredom. In fact, my love of words goes back to before I learned to read. I was fascinated with the sounds of words and the accents of some family friends and neighbors.

Most of all, I couldn't wait to learn the "magic" for deciphering the symbols in those books my five older siblings so enjoyed. It was no surprise to my family when I showed a flair for making up stories and putting on puppet shows for the neighborhood. I think I always knew I'd grow up to write books.

I'm in about 5th grade here - the one in the background, with my leg hanging over the arm of the couch. (That's sibling no. 4 with me, by the way.)

I also spent a great deal of time playing in the creek and exploring the outdoors. Spending time outdoors is still one of my hobbies.
